Dust lice

Dust lice

The dust lice (Psocoptera) are a genus of insects. Dust lice usually reach a body size of 0.7 to 10 millimetres; the largest species is the Thyrsophorus metallicus. A special characteristic of these animals is their mandibles that are an intermediate form between the chewing-biting type of the ground lice and the sucking type of the other lice, bugs and cicadas.

Behaviour:
Dust lice prefer moist areas for their development. They live off moulds and are therefore dependent on moisture. They move by quick running or jumping.

Damage/illnesses:
In kitchens and pantries, they like to attack starchy things; they can also damage textiles and papers. Dust lice frequently spread fungi.

Control:
Regularly air apartment. Treat infested places with NEOCID EXPERT Insect Spray or Neocid EXPERT Spider Control. If they are seen in the kitchen, infested supplies must be destroyed. Clear out drawers and cupboards and spray with Neocid EXPERT Insect Spray. Thoroughly clean after 24 hours and return food to drawers and cupboards.

Prophylaxis:
Good ventilation to avoid moisture in living and cellar rooms.
Seal hollow spaces, cracks in the walls, crevices, joints and other hiding places.
